WiSE (and Women) in the News: Roundtable Discussion

With the Nature special, Sheryl Sandberg's "Lean In," the Steubenville rape trial, and everything in between, there's been a LOT of news these days about women in science and society. We want to hear your take on these issues. Come join us on Thursday, March 28 at 5:30 p.m. in Bio Sci 139 for a low-key discussion on the Nature articles and on recent events. No assigned reading, but feel free to browse the articles on our Facebook page and the sampler below. Please RSVP here to attend.

Nature's Special on Women in Science

Start here. Includes an interview with Nancy Hopkins (colleague of Hazel Sive, a WiSE 2012 speaker), a very honest op-ed on ingrained sexist attitudes, and much more food for thought.

"Elements of Assertiveness" with Dr. Rhonda Sutton

We're happy to host Dr. Rhonda Sutton next Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 6:00 in Bio Sci 154 for a seminar on assertive communication. Dr. Sutton gives amazing grad workshops, one of which inspired this seminar. You might also have heard of her from RCR forums or her work as the Director of Postdoc Affairs at NC State. Read on for details, and please RSVP here to attend.
